Body

As part of the 45th Annual Research and Education Forum of the University of Puerto Rico’s Medical Sciences Campus, held from April 7 to 11, 2025, Gabriel Listovsky, chief of the Virtual Campus Special Program (VH), delivered the lecture “Essential Competencies for Public Health Teaching: A Regional Framework for the Americas.”

The event provided an opportunity to showcase the work of the Virtual Campus, promote the use of its educational resources in Puerto Rico, and share the experience developed in collaboration with the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) in the area of teaching competencies for public health. The presentation generated interest among faculty and researchers and fostered dialogue around the current challenges in training the health workforce.

During the visit, discussions also advanced around potential agreements with the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Puerto Rico, with the aim of positioning the institution as the coordinator of the Virtual Campus Puerto Rico Node. This collaboration would help strengthen the Campus’s presence in the Caribbean and expand access to continuing education in public health across the region.

As a technical cooperation strategy of PAHO, the Virtual aims to strengthen the capacities of health workers through online learning technologies, offering high-quality content and equitable access to training opportunities.
